Born in Kalamata in 1969. He studied medicine at the Medical School of the University of Athens and graduated in 1995. He specialized in psychiatry at the First Department of Psychiatry of the University of Athens, Eginition Hospital. He has also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and specialized in Psychotherapy of Eating Disorders. He is a Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Athens Medical School.

In the past, he has worked as a scientific supervisor of psychosocial programs and as a trainer in training courses for mental health professionals that have been implemented in Greece, Denmark and Finland as part of the psychiatric reform program "Psychargos". He was also a research collaborator in European research programs and a trainer at the Clinical Psychopathology course of the First Departmnet of Psychiatry of the University of Athens.

Since 2008, he has been working as a scientific associate of the First Department of Psychiatry of the University of Athens at the Byron-Kessariani Community Mental Health Center and the Eating Disorders Unit. At the same time, since 2009, he has been a research associate of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London, where he conducts studies in the field of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry. The main areas of his research are: insight (awareness of illness), cognitive functioning and, in particular, social cognition in mental disorders, clinical characteristics and the cognitive background of psychological symptoms, meta-cognition and its relationship to psychopathology. He conducts research on these issues in relation to various mental disorders, such as eating disorders, schizophrenia and mood disorders.

To date, he has published 41 papers in international and 10 in Greek scientific journals and has participated in 5 scientific books. He is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal “Psychiatriki” of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association, Editor-in-Chief of the online journal Dialogues in Clinical Neuroscience & Mental Health, member of the editorial board of the journal “Synapsis” and reviewer in 20 international scientific journals. He has participated in 21 international and 24 Greek scientific conferences with more than 100 papers and lectures and has won 3 best presentation awards at the 18th Conference of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), in Munich, in 2010, at the 3rd Monothematic Conference of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), in Athens, in 2013, and at the 22nd Panhellenic Congress of Psychiatry, in Ioannina, in 2014. In 2015, he participated in the scientific group for the Information and Awareness on Eating Disorders Program, which was implemented by the Non-Profit Organization ANASA with ESPA (National Strategic Reference Framework) funding. In the context of this program, he was responsible for editing and co-authoring the "Study on the therapeutic guidelines for the treatment of eating disorders".

Since 2014, he has been the scientific supervisor of the annual post-graduate Course in Clinical Psychopathology "Panagiotis Oulis" of the First Department of Psychiatry of the University of Athens and the University Research Institute for Mental Health (EPIPSY). Since 2016, he has also been the supervisor of another annual postgraduate Course in Clinical Skills in Psychopathology "Panagiotis Oulis" organized by the First Department of Psychiatry of the University of Athens and the Hellenic Psychiatric Association. At the same time, he is the supervisor of postgraduate programs of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association that are conducted through clinical training workshops. Namely, of the Clinical Training Workshop for Primary Health Care doctors on the diagnosis and treatment of depression and the Clinical Training Workshop for psychiatrists in recognizing and assessing cognitive dysfunction in mental disorders. Also, since 2014, he has been participating as a teacher in the post-graduate training programs of the First Department of Psychiatry for intern psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses and other mental health professionals. Since 2015, he has been teaching at the MSc Program in Mental Health Promotion - Prevention of Mental Disorders of the First Department of Psychiatry of the University of Athens and since 2016, at the MSc Program in Clinical Neuropsychology of the Department of Neurology of the University of Athens in collaboration with the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), McGill University.
